We care about the future of our young patients! In generations of the past, there was not much to be done about eyes that kept getting worse, but we are fortunate that times have changed! High levels of nearsightedness (myopia) are linked with greater risk for eye problems and eye diseases later in life. Being really nearsighted also just makes a lot of things more challenging for a person! Fortunately, research and advancements in technology have given us great options to slow the rate of progression or worsening of myopia. Certain risk factors such as age of onset, family history and ethnicity may increase risk for high myopia. Elementary and middle school aged children with nearsightedness that is getting worse each year are especially great candidates for this program due to the impact that we can make as they grow.
